Letter to Hon'ble President of Bangladesh Regarding Salahuddin Shaoib Choudhury

BY FAX

In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

DHAKA, Thursday, 12 June 2008.

To:

Honorable President Professor Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed
People’s Republic of Bangladesh
BANGABHABAN (Presidential Palace), Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Honorable President, Sir,

Peace and Divine Blessings be upon your honor.

We hope, your honor is aware that the US Congress passed House Resolution 64 by 409 to 1 Vote in Defence of Bangladeshi Journalist Mr. Salahuddin Shoaib Choudhury.

It may be noted that this was mainly a case of violation of passport law. The other part of the case is nothing but imaginative concoction. Mr. Choudhury already spent 17 months in jail while punishment for violation of Bangladesh passport law does not put one for such a long time in jail.

We personally know Mr. Salahuddin Shoaib Choudhury who can be safely certified as a true patriot and believer Muslim. It may be noted that he is a descendant of one of the companions of the Great Saint Hazrat Shahjalal (R.A.). The market and properties adjacent to the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) at Sylhet belongs to their Waqf Estate. And we are convinced that Mr. Choudhury’s efforts to promote Muslim-Jewish Dialogue and relationship with Israel and US Jewish lobby was in the best interest of Bangladesh. He risked his own life for the sake of the nation.

In the best interest of Bangladesh we appeal to your honor to make an Executive Order to review & set aside the case against Mr. Salahuddin Shoaib Choudhury.

Sincerely yours,

for Human Rights Forum
